My Wacom Bamboo Create Pen Tablet Review

Basically
This tablet is like a dream come true! Honestly, with there being so many other great types of Wacom tablets out there, I was a little nervous with my selection at first, but I'm confident I made the right choice. I knew that it would be easier to digitally edit photos, but the accuracy has blown me away. In combination with the large 8.5"x5.4" area, this makes sketching, coloring, and retouching a breeze. I also thought that it was rather convenient that it came with its own software bundled inside. I personally already purchased Adobe Photoshop CS5 before I had the tablet, so I've not had to rely on their software too much as much as some people may, either way, it's nice to have. The Create Tablet seems to be compared to small Intuos4 a lot, but honestly, you get so much more space with the Create. (This should be enough unless you want to spend a couple hundred dollars more and upgrade to the Medium Intuos4 Wireless Pen Tablet or even Large for more workspace.)

This review is for the new Bamboo Create Tablet. My uses for the tablet are everyday use (tablets have replaced all computer mice for me) and as a professional photographer, I use it to edit wedding photos in Photoshop & Lightroom.

I had been using the Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet for over and year & was extremely happy to be able to upgrade to the new Bamboo Create. First off, the new Create has a much more slim, sleek appearance. I have uploaded a photo to compare size/shape of the two tablets One irksome quality that I've always wished was different that still exists is the usb port's location. It's (again) on the left side of the tablet. I am right-handed and have the tablet to the right of my key board. The cord, as most usb cords are, doesn't lay flat and just kind of curls up next to the key board. I wish the port was at the top of the tablet, but it's just a small irritation.

As for the the feel of the pen, it has a softer grip to it than the pen that was included with the Fun tablet. It's a bit thinner, and just feels, well, soft. I like it much more than the previous pen. It has a more fluid, natural feel when pressed onto the tablet vs. the previous tablet's pen which felt more "plasticky" when touched to the tablet.

I strictly use Photoshop & Lightroom, so I can't review the included software, but it is a very nice bundle that's included with the tablet. It's more than enough to get you started if you are completely lacking in photo editing software.

I haven't picked up a mouse in a year and a half since I started using Wacom tablets. I don't think I could ever go back if I had to. For a long time I was one of those who thought tablets seemed awkward and was sure that I wouldn't be able to operate a computer with one, but I was so wrong. The best advice I received in order to start using the tablet pen was to 'just hold the pen naturally like you're going to write a sentence and draw where you want to go on the screen without touching the pad' Boom, I was hooked. It has cut my editing time in half because of the precision and control I have over the editing areas. It's astounding.

Give a tablet a try, you'll be amazed once you do!
